When systems stall, communities step up.

Starting in November 2025, SNAP benefits in Minnesota are delayed AND uncertain due to the ongoing federal government shutdown.
Families who depend on these benefits are facing increased food insecurity, and our market vendors are losing income during a critical season.

At Neighborhood Roots, we believe everyone deserves access to fresh, nourishing, local food.
That’s why we’re launching Neighbors Feeding Neighbors — a community-powered effort to keep good food flowing and support both our neighbors and our farmers.

How the Program Works

Neighbor Bucks Program

Households impacted by the SNAP disruption (and other hardships amplified by the shutdown) can receive $20 in Neighbor Bucks to spend on grocery items from local farmers and food vendors at our November 8th Winter Market.

Pay It Forward and make a donation to help fund this program. If SNAP is restored and funds remain, 100% of donations will go to hunger relief efforts in our community.

Help Feed Our Neighbors

Winter Market Food Drive

We’re also hosting a Food Drive at our Winter Market on Saturday, November 8 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Bachman’s on Lyndale (6010 Lyndale Ave S).
All are welcome to bring non-perishable goods and all are welcome to take from the table. At the end of the day, remaining food will be donated to Joyce Uptown Food Shelf.

Subscribe to our market newsletters

May through October, we send weekly market-specific newsletters 2–3 days before market day, featuring vendor lineups, activities, live music, recipes, upcoming events, and more.
